The Hochsauerland region with its low mountains and brisk air was already popular as a summer resort in the 19th century. In the year 1880, a Gründerzeit mansion was erected on the Schmallenberg estate, and thus began the estate's era as a holiday resort. The Deimann family, who have managed the hotel for four generations, took over in 1917 and the magnificent estate mansion became a comfortable five star hotel with the charm of a house run personally by the family.

The mansion is situated in a spacious park, with woods and water. The Rothaarsteig trail leads past the house at a short distance, inviting both hikers and mountain bikers. The winters have lots of snow, making the neighbourhood popular with skiers and sledge riders. Golf enthusiasts will love the nearby 18 hole champion course, one of the prettiest in Germany. The hotel's spa has champion qualities, too: Among the features of the "SPA im Gutshof" are an illuminated jacuzzi, floating water beds and professional Ayurvedic treatments. The house also has an officially recognised practice for therapeutic medicinal baths. And the "Vitaloase" offers everything to expect from a wellness hotel of this category.
